Often, when exploring a foreign region, we are so far taken away by the touristic facade while viewing the historical districts, we forget about the everyday sights and cultural experiences that take our breaths away. The following images relay my experiences in finding the balance between seeing the country I had dreamed about as a child and my own traveling encounters.

I fell in love with the region of Umbria after having spent a month in the city of Perugia. You begin to feel like a local, you are a regular at shops, your knowledge of the language expands, people remember your order at restaurants, and you feel at home walking through the city.

This past summer I was brought half-way around the world as my brother married a local from Colombo. My family became a part of a Kandyan-style ceremony and an adventure of a lifetime. People always tell you how differently you see the world after traveling to a new country, however, I was certainly not expecting what was in store for me in the tear drop of India.
